The fine print, written to be read.

Every section starts with a plain-language summary. The full text below it is what applies, but we've tried to make the two say the same thing.

Part one · Terms of service

01Who we are

These terms are an agreement between you and Issue, a MONOFRAME company (“Issue”, “we”). They cover your use of the Issue website, dashboard, reader app and email delivery (together, the “Service”). If you use the Service on behalf of an organisation, you accept these terms for that organisation.

We may update these terms. When a change matters, we will email account owners at least thirty days before it takes effect.

02Your account

You must be at least 16 to open an account. You are responsible for activity on your account and for keeping your sign-in details secure. Team members you invite act on your behalf within the role you give them.

If you think someone has accessed your account without permission, write to help@issue.example and we will lock it while we look.

03Your content

You keep all rights to the posts, images and other material you publish (“Content”). You grant Issue a limited licence to host, copy, format and send your Content solely to provide the Service, including showing excerpts in Discover if you opt in.

The licence ends when you delete the Content or your account, except for copies already delivered to readers’ inboxes and backups that expire within 35 days.

04Payments and payouts

Paid memberships are processed through a payment account in your name. Issue does not take a share of subscription revenue. The payment processor deducts its own fees, which are shown in your dashboard. Your Issue plan is billed separately; see pricing.

You are responsible for any taxes due on your revenue and for honouring refunds you promise to readers.

05Acceptable use

You may not use the Service to send messages to people who did not agree to receive them, to impersonate others, to distribute malware, or to publish content that is illegal or that incites violence or harassment against people.

We review reports by hand. When we act, we tell you why, and you can appeal by replying to that email.

06Ending things

You may close your account at any time from settings. Before you do, you can export subscribers, members, posts and comments in open formats. We may suspend accounts that break these terms after notice, except where immediate action is needed to protect readers.

Part two · Privacy notice

07What we collect

For writers: name, email, billing details and the settings you choose. For readers: email address, subscription status and, if they pay, the membership record (card details stay with the payment processor). For everyone: basic logs such as IP address and browser, kept for 30 days.

08How we use it

We use personal data to provide and secure the Service, to send account messages, and to produce aggregate statistics. We do not sell personal data, show ads, or build advertising profiles of writers or readers.

09Your readers' data

For subscriber data, you are the controller and Issue is your processor. We only process reader data on your instructions and to deliver the Service. Open and click counts are recorded per issue; readers can switch this off from any email footer.

10Cookies

We use a strictly necessary cookie for sign-in and a preference stored in your browser for theme and accent. We do not use third-party analytics or advertising cookies on publications or on this site.

11Your rights

You can access, correct, export or delete your personal data at any time, most of it directly from settings. Readers can do the same from their account page or by writing to the publication’s author. We respond to all requests within 30 days.

12Contact

Write to privacy@issue.example or use the contact page. Our data protection lead is Clara Dubois. Postal address: Issue, The Old Print Works, 14 Ropewalk Lane, Harrowgate Quay.
